Reciprocal Teaching

Students are working hard on learning the "Fab 4" reading strategies. Good readers make predictions, ask themselves questions, summarize what they read, and clarify when things don't make sense. Once readers have a smooth operating system, they do these four steps automatically. Our goal this year is to help our students really understand what they read on a deeper level. We believe that reciprocal teaching is going to help us meet this goal. Students will form discussion groups around text they are reading. Each student will be given a specific job to do as we read. Right now, we are working to understand each role so each time we read, we do all four jobs. The RT map can be used with any text. Ask your student about the "Fab 4" today!
